Dr. Ami Bera, a democrat running for the Congressional seat currently held by Republican Dan Lungren will be speaking tonight at the County Club. He is a guest of the Rancho Murieta Rotary Club and will be starting at 7 p.m. in the board room.
The public is welcome.
A lifelong Californian, Dr. Ami Bera benefited from what this state and this country had to offer – equality, opportunity, and the promise that through hard work and education he could reach his potential and create a full and successful life. As the youngest son of parents who emigrated from India, Dr. Bera considers himself a beneficiary of the American dream. Attaining undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of California, Irvine, Dr. Bera has achieved a remarkable record of leadership and service as a physician and public administrator. At age 32 he was appointed Medical Director of Care Management for the five-hospital Mercy Healthcare Sacramento system. At 34 he accepted a position of Medical Director and Chief Medical Officer for Sacramento County. This entailed running a county division with over 400 employees, forging unique and collaborative public-private partnerships, and working creatively to maximize the resources of area hospitals and non-profit groups to provide care for 200,000 uninsured and underrepresented Sacramentans. At 39, Dr. Bera was appointed Associate Dean of Admissions at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine, where he continued his commitment to leadership as an inspirational administrator, policy reformer, and beloved teacher and mentor. Today, informed by the strong American values that allowed him to succeed and frustrated by the lack of strong leadership on behalf of the forgotten middle class, Ami is running to represent his district in the United States Congress.
