It is rough out there

On a nice sunny Tuesday, March 9th, The North course turned out to be a rough experience  for many in the Women’s Golf Club. The rough was upwards of six inches and mostly eight inches of thick and juicy, unmown grass.  Lots of chatter could be heard, at the Clubhouse after the round, about how the rain-effect cost the players valuable strokes in the Two Best-Ball Foursome format. Keeping the ball in the short stuff and choosing the right club was the winning combination for the steady, down-the-middle players.

There could be little “boo-hooing” from the winning team in the First Flight consisting of Jo Mills, El Louise Waldron and E.Jane White, shooting a 134 for the two best balls, because they far out-played the entire field of 11 teams.  Second place was awarded to Melinda Frost, Soon Lee, Kimiko Pumilia and Paulette Satterley with a score of 142.

In the Second Flight, scores were a little closer, but the winners posted a 140 to eke out the win over second place by two strokes.  The first place team of Mardi Bryant, JoAnne Byers, Doris Hanson and Jean Schwinn edged out the second place team of Shirley Anderson, Beverly Brown, Connie Heimbecker and Masako Matano.

With the pin placements pretty fair, the Closest-to-the-Pin on Hole Two went to Kimiko Pumilia at ten feet, ten inches from the flag.  Byers and White landed outside of 14 feet to take second and third places respectively.  On Hole 12, Ruth Dragash snugged her ball just four feet, three inches from the hole, claiming first place, while second place went to Connie Heimbecker and third to Jean Paik, both over 15 feet from the pin.

The sun was shining on all, but especially on the winners for this Tuesday.
