Lady Luck for some in Tuesday golf

Nineteen threesomes took the tee on Tuesday, February 23rd, in a Best Ball event, put on by the Women’s 18-Holers.  However, beating the rain was part of the game, with just a hand full of groups playing “dry” golf, and three groups deciding they were not up to the game, as a steady rain drenched half of the field, by early afternoon.

Jean Paik was on her game, though, sinking several putts outside of seven feet to bring first place to her team in the first flight.  And, Marlene Duncan and Gail Lewandowski both had net eagles on par threes to bring the gold to their team in the second flight.  And, they finshed the last four holes in a downpour, as did the third flight winners.

Team Winners in the First Flight were Candy Koropp, Soon Lee and Jean Paik with a 65. The second place threesome of Bev Carr-Barrow, Ann Coeur, and Joan Lake posted 66.  In the Second Flight, the winning team of Marlene Duncan, Gail Lewandowski and Jean Schwinn reported a 60, besting the second place team of JoAnne Byers, Mischel Choi and Masako Matano by two strokes.  The Third Flight was won by Jan Davis, Stacia Matheny and Vi Thatcher with a team score of 61.  Second place in the flight went to Claudia Faeth, Patricia Favero and Marilyn Moore with a 66.

Flags on holes six and 12 provided the backdrop for Closest-to-the-Pin competition.  The winner on Hole Six was E. Jane White, 16 feet, 7 inches from the cup.  Second place went to Connie Heimbecker and third place to Nina Heise, both nearly 30 feet away.  All of the winners on Hole 12, were within ten feet of the flag.  First place was claimed by Gail Lewandowski at six feet, 11 inches, and she capped it off with a birdie putt.  Second and third place went to Candy Koropp and El Louise Waldron, respectively.

All of the players were thankful for winter rules during Tuesday’s round.
