A high-ranking state corrections official has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in a state vehicle in Rancho Murieta, the California Highway Patrol confirmed Wednesday.

Scott Michael Kernan, who serves as undersecretary of operations for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, was taken into custody by the CHP at about 8:10 p.m. Sunday along Jackson Highway just east of Indio Drive.

Kernan was driving a state vehicle at the time of his arrest, the CHP said.

The Tip

The "tip of the iceberg" is that Scott Kernan is a good person who made a mistake and will pay for it.  He is a good family man, a good father, and a good friend. He is well liked and respected by everybody who knows him. We all mistakes in life, but most of us don't get to read about them in the local papers.  Fortunately nobody was hurt and I know Scott will learn from this.
