School board names new representative for Murieta area
The Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Education has appointed Alfred Rowlett to take Brian Myers' seat to represent an area that includes Rancho Murieta. Myers retired from the board June 30 after serving for 20 years.
Rowlett was selected from a field of seven candidates, according to the school district. He joined the school board Tuesday.
The new trustee has a history of service with the school district and five of his children have graduated from its schools. He currently has a daughter attending Arnold Adreani Elementary School.
His involvement with Elk Grove Unified School District includes service on the School Names Committee, Finance Committee, College and Career Task Force, Unity Task Force, Blue Ribbon Schools Committee, School Site Council for James Rutter Middle School and Parents for Student Excellence Committee. He has also served as a superintendent's parent liaison, PTA president and treasurer at David Reese Elementary School.
Rowlett is the chief operations officer of Turning Point Community Programs and oversees the operation of 16 programs serving over 4,000 adults and children with psychiatric disabilities. As a licensed social worker, he has taught for the California Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, Turning Point Community Programs, California State University, Sacramento, Los Rios Community College District and as a volunteer life skills instructor for foster youth at Florin High School.
