Golf scores are good, bad and ugly
Published August 25, 2010There were 59 members of the Rancho Murieta Women’s Golf Club teamed for a role in the game of Good, Bad and Ugly on Tuesday, August 24th. Each hole score depended on the associated par. Three-pars needed three best-balls, while four pars required two best-balls. But, the zinger was adding the “worst net score” of one player on the par fives. The results showed a lot of ugly golf kept teams from top ratings. Teams had to keep their powder dry on a day of 100 degree temps and shooting miscues on the par fives. Read more »
Cheryl Berg wins ninth championship
Published August 20, 2010
From left: Cheryl Berg, club champion; E. Jane White, low-gross winner, and Joan Lake, low-net winner, both in the first flight.
The Rancho Murieta Women’s Golf Club played a three-round Club Championship, produced by Tournament Chair, Sally Davis, beginning August 10th and ending August 17th. Amid a standing “O”, the low handicapper, Cheryl Berg, took the trophy for the ninth time since 1999. She carded 235, just 17 over par for 54 holes and winded up ten strokes under E. Jane White, last year’s champ, who placed second. Jane commented that Berg’s short game was really something and that she easily escaped from trouble, which made the difference. Read more »

Finesse wins it for the ladies
Published August 5, 2010The pace was slow and it was hard to get into a rhythm, as the Women’s Golf Club stumbled around the North Course again Tuesday, August 3rd, trying to hone their games for the upcoming Club Championship. As the course always proves to be demanding, the pin placements were most troublesome in this LowGross/Net Game. Despite this, three ladies brought their game. Debra Canadas, Gwen Von Seeger and Bev Brown showed up the rest of the field and played under their handicaps to win their flights. Read more »

Cha Cha Cha to the green
Published June 19, 2010Twelve tee groups played a Cha Cha Cha format on Tuesday, June 15th, on the South Course at Rancho Murieta. A few of the 18-holers were dancin’ on the green with chances for birdies and a chance to top the field. And, the flags were dancin’ ’in the breeze, but not enough to deter those from sticking it close to the cup.
Jackie Monical measured the closest on Hole 4 and Dale Parks nestled her ball just feet from the pin on Hole 15, to claim the revered range token as the prize. Mardi Bryant took second place and just steps behind was Candy Koropp, placing third on Hole 4. On Hole 15, it was Claudia Faeth and Koropp for second and third place, respectively. Read more »

Par for the course for 18-holers

Highlights included the dead-eye putting of Vi Thatcher. She was on auto-pilot with one-putts from outside 15 feet on at least five holes, and she bested her handicap. With rare back-to-back chip-ins on Holes 16 and 17, Evelyn Manss demonstrated her best short game near the end. On the hunt for points
Published April 8, 2010The Rancho Murieta Women’s Golf Club played a Par Points game, the format for the annual Ham Hunt tournament on Tuesday, April 6th, and a nice lead-in to Master’s Week. Gals dressed in vibrant spring colors dotted the North course, albeit, with no hams, but gift certs to Plaza Foods for the winners. Divided into four flights, Scott de Borba, Asst. A jolly good game of golf
Published March 30, 2010
On Tuesday, March 30th, the theme was oh so British for the Women’s Golf Club Guest Day. After a spot of tea and a typical Brit breakfast at tables adorned with floral teapots and the union jack, the ladies headed to the links in a Londonish mist, (well, light rain). After just minutes, though, those Irish eyes were smiling as the sunshine ended a need for brollies for this Low Net Team play and Low Gross/ Net Individual Game. The brisk breeze was quite a help to downwind play, but not so much hitting into the wind. Read more »
It is rough out there
Published March 13, 2010
18-Holers enjoying the breakfast meeting prior to teeing up for the Two Best-Ball Game.
On a nice sunny Tuesday, March 9th, The North course turned out to be a rough experience for many in the Women’s Golf Club. The rough was upwards of six inches and mostly eight inches of thick and juicy, unmown grass. Lots of chatter could be heard, at the Clubhouse after the round, about how the rain-effect cost the players valuable strokes in the Two Best-Ball Foursome format. Keeping the ball in the short stuff and choosing the right club was the winning combination for the steady, down-the-middle players. Read more »
Criss-Cross for game and weather
Published March 5, 2010The weather, again, impacted our field in more ways than one. Just 32 ladies of 58 sign-ups, took the tee in the weekly Rancho Murieta Women’s Golf Tuesday game on March 3rd. But only 27 finished enough holes to “play the game”. In Criss-Cross, the golfer needs only to count the best score from either the front nine or back nine for holes one through nine. Read more »
Lady Luck for some in Tuesday golf
Published February 24, 2010Nineteen threesomes took the tee on Tuesday, February 23rd, in a Best Ball event, put on by the Women’s 18-Holers. However, beating the rain was part of the game, with just a hand full of groups playing “dry” golf, and three groups deciding they were not up to the game, as a steady rain drenched half of the field, by early afternoon.
Jean Paik was on her game, though, sinking several putts outside of seven feet to bring first place to her team in the first flight. And, Marlene Duncan and Gail Lewandowski both had net eagles on par threes to bring the gold to their team in the second flight. And, they finshed the last four holes in a downpour, as did the third flight winners. Read more »

RM Women’s Club plays Irish four-ball game
Published February 4, 2010Playing the South Course on Tuesday, February 2nd, was more than Groundhog Day. The team of Debra Canadas, April Carlson and Soon Lee, scored 156 to take First Place. Read more »
Bramble is a walk on the wet side
Published January 28, 2010After days of rain, just 11 ladies braved the cold and muddy conditions, on the North Course, to play a Bramble, January 29th. A breakfast meeting warmed the players before slogging their way around the course. The winning team of Masako Matano, Margaret Niederberger, and E. Jane White persevered with a score of 132.
Closest to the pin winners on Hole Two included Joan Lake at eight feet, eight inches, San Robinson at nine feet, five inches and Margaret Niederberger with 18 feet, 10 inches from the flag. E. Jane White was the only one on the green on Hole 16, just 11 feet, 4 inches away.
Congratulations to all of the ladies for boldly facing the elements.
