Kids Fishing Day is a chance for veteran fisherman to teach novices.
Sign-up takes place this week for the 16th annual Kiwanis Club Kids Fishing Day. The event happens 9 a.m. Sunday at Lake Clementia. Parental waiver forms are now available at the Rancho Murieta Business Center in Murieta Plaza. Attendance is limited to the first 120 children signed up.
The free event is open to local children from kindergarten through 8th grade.
Kids Fishing Day is co-sponsored by the Rancho Murieta Fishing Club and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. It offers lessons on the importance of good water quality, maintaining habitat for fish, fishing ethics, casting and fishing, and the care and cleaning of caught fish. Trout are planted for the event.
All participants must check in at Lake Clementia Sunday morning.
A free barbecue lunch is provided for children and their parents at 11 a.m. Students from the Rancho Murieta Key Club will be available to help prepare and serve food, and assist with cleanup. The student leadership and community service program is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club.
