[Fourth update, 10:05 p.m.] After teasing Sacramentans with the possibility of the first measurable snowfall in more than 30 years on Monday, the National Weather Service continued to downgrade that possibility through the day. By late Sunday the forecast called for a possible snow and rain mix Monday morning before the storm turns to rain in the afternoon.
Despite the scant presence of snow in the forecast, the National Weather Service's forecast at 9:55 p.m. Sunday still said an inch or two of snow is possible.
Earlier Sunday, the forecast had called for possibly as much as four inches of snow. The last measurable snow in Sacramento was in 1976, when two inches fell.
Here's the forecast for the next 48 hours:
Sunday night: Rain becoming a rain-snow mix towards morning. Lows around 35.
Monday: Rain or snow showers in the morning, then a chance of rain showers in the afternoon. Highs 38 to 44. Local snow accumulation one to two inches.
Monday night: Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of rain showers in the evening, then mostly clear after midnight with areas of frost and lows 23 to 29. Winds gusts up to 25 mph are forecast after midnight.
Tuesday: Widespread frost in the morning. Mostly sunny, highs 40 to 46.
Tuesday night: Partly cloudy, lows 24 to 32.
Snow in RM
Yes, I remember when it happened. We opened the blinds and the deck and common ground was all white!!! My dog would not go out there!! I wish I had some pictures of that.......it was really a sight to see....:)
When was that?
About how long ago, Jacque?
Snow in RM
According to the National Weather Service, the last time we had snow in Sacramento was on January 28, 2002. It was definitely a day to remember for many residents in California with snow down to the valley floor.
The early morning started with reports of snow in the Bay Area. Then more reports of snow moving west to the valley.
That's about when it happened as I recall.......
Snow in RM
I do remember it snowed once after we moved here, and we moved in April 2001. I also remember a really big hail storm when we were up visiting before we moved in...Jan/Feb 2001 or late 2000.
Thanks for that info from News10, Jacque.
The story says the last measurable snow was two inches in February 1976, and the most snow ever recorded was four inches in January 1888.
I have pictures somewhere of snow on my brand new (no license plates yet!) Ford Pinto Hatchback - Hunter Green .. I just wish I knew where they are. I also have the big hail storm in 2001/2002 .. I just ran across those just yesterday.
Vern Wallace 7:05 am and it's snowing--- 7:30 flakes the size of quarters
All around RM
By the TV reports, there was some snow that stuck all around us, even in Wilton. Considerable amounts in El Dorado Hills.
Snow dusting on Domingo
We had a light dusting of snow early this morning. This picture was taken in front of our house on Domingo Dr.
