If the weather forecasters are correct, this July 4 will be a hot one.  So take a little bit of extra care, and make the day just as much fun as every other year -- which means a whole lot of fun.  Here are some tips (and rules) for the day and the schedule of events.

Beating the heat

Tip 1 is to stay hydrated, and of course make sure your kids do too.  Cool water is better than water that's ice cold. Avoid alcoholic drinks.  Do not leave any living creature in the car.

This might be the year to have your dog stay home, especially from the carnival.  It's very sunny at Lake Clementia, and dogs, even more than humans, have a hard time handling heat.  (We sweat to cool our bodies, but dogs' only cooling mechanism is to pant; they hardly sweat at all.)

Fireworks and your pets

Every year, Murietans lose their pets when they’re frightened by fireworks.  Make sure your pets are safe and secure inside your home.

Guests

Guest passes for the gate can be picked up at the Rancho Murieta Association Building before July 4.  Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Every lot is eligible for five free passes, then passes are $5 per pass.

Mail or deliver them to your guests in advance. Passes will speed your visitors through the gate, which can see backups on July 4.  It's best if even guests on the guest list are given a pass.

Events are open to RMA members and their guests.  You must accompany your guests.

Placing blankets and towels

No earlier than 6 p.m. Wednesday.  No plastic or tarps -- it kills the grass -- and no rocks to anchor the blankets.

Laguna Joaquin

From the RMA: Carts must stay on the path around the lake.  No parking on the path.  Carts must stay off the grass.
