Red square Photo gallery: 63 shots from the opening party

The spray park at Riverview Park opened Saturday afternoon with a dedication ceremony that recognized Summerfest's $68,000 donation with a plaque naming the new park in the volunteer group’s honor. Park funds were used for $167,000 of the cost. The spray park transformed an unattractive and unused area between the basketball court and the playground, said Rancho Murieta Association President Jim Moore in his opening remarks. Once Moore cut the ribbon, a crowd of kids surged forward and water began flowing to the rings, bucket, mushroom and other park features. Music played as RMA staff and board members cooked hot dogs, spun cotton candy and made snow-cones for everybody.

Spray Park

What fun and what a nice addition to the community!  Thanks to all who made it happen.  Now - with community swimming pools - there usually is an hour or so reserved for adults.  Could we do the same at the splash park?!?  Might be a good way to cool off on a hot summer day....

sure would be fun to watch :)

Spray park hours

Summerfest Spray Park is open from 1 to 6 p.m. every day. The RMA is planning to post a sign at the park with the hours of operation.

Spray park ~ hours

Let me say a BIG  thanks to all involved in making the spray park happen! its amazing.  We attended the Grand opening and couldn't help but think what a wonderful place we live in!  Thanks to everyone!!

If I can make a suggestion?  Can we tweek the 1pm start time a bit? maybe earlier on the weekends at least?  My kiddo is almost 3.. the target market for the spray park, myself along with several other moms, have the same issue - nap time.  The two days I've been to the spray park its thrown nap schedule off, doesnt' sound like a big deal but it can be!   We would love an 11am or at least noon start...   All the spray parks in EDH, Folsom and elk grove open at 11 everyday..   I'm aware of water conservation so I'm just suggesting weekends.. However yesterday, a Tuesday I was at the park, hanging out from 11:30-1 waiting.. many people were checking to see if it was open and at 12:50 a crowd was ready to go.

THANKS again... the spray park is a wonderful addition!

Spray Park Hours

Kara,

I couldn't agree more with the hours suggestion!  I left a message yesterday with RMA requesting the same change.  We had to go to Rancho Cordova for some errands and both of my kids noted that the spray park by Lowe's was open and requested that we go home to get their bathing suits so they coud play until ours was open for the day.  I am so happy to have our spray park, I just wish that nap time didn't turn into a battle ground based on the hours.

Regardless of the available hours we are so thrilled to have the spray park.  Thank you again to all who made it possible!

Just my 2 cents

I don't have any kids...having it open until 6pm doesn't make sense to me, IMHO.

If you start earlier say 11am and you can close around 4pm then parents can go home, get kids cleaned up and then they can get dinner started at a reasonable hour.

It's always tricky...

Beth,

I think we may be on the verge of a "you can't please everyone" situation. Water conservation is important, little ones take naps and working parents can't take thier kids to the spray park if it closes before they get home.  If it comes down to a set number of hours in a day that the park can be open I would rather deal with naptime issues than have all of the kids with working parents miss out in the aftrnoon.

So I get your point but

I am all for having it open later, but only having it open in the hottest part of the day with no shade around makes it not as great as it could be.  I am excited that we have it, I think it is a great addition, but I would love to see less restrictive hours.  Most spray parks in the surrounding areas are open from 10am to 7pm (some even later).  Why is this park so much more restrictive than all the other parks in the area?  Having more hours would fix the crowding, nap, lack of shade/heat problems and it would allow working parents to partake with their kids too.  Is this even an option open for discussion?
