Clown in the rain

Square See 57 photos from the Harvest Festival

It was raining cats, dogs and clowns Sunday afternoon as hundreds of children and their parents turned out for the Cosumnes River Elementary School Harvest Festival, the annual event put on by the PTA. Inside the new school, it was dry and warm, with plenty of room for games, a costume contest, a haunted house and refreshments, even a cider press that produced the freshest apple cider ever. Event organizers setting up on Friday went to Plan B when the rain began. It was a good call -- the rain picked up on Saturday, and Sunday brought both wind and rain. The season's first storm may not be over yet. There's a 40 percent chance of rain on Monday.

Principal's thumbs-up

CRES Principal Mike Gulden adds a comment over on the RM.com Facebook page:

Thanks to everyone who came out and made it a fun day, including our Kiwanians for once again pressing apples into cider, the scouts for making "tiger's blood" snowcones, the 6th graders for an outstanding Haunted House, and the 5th grade for providing the feast! Thanks also to our wonderful PTA for making "Plan B" an "A" event!

Thank you for a great event!

I would like to extend my thanks to all of the wonderful people who made the Harvest Festival possible.  Our event chairs, Erin Howard and Meggan Martin, worked very hard with their group of dedicated volunteers to bring old fashioned family fun to our kids.  Our successful fundraisers throughout the last year made it possible for the PTA to offer this event free to all CRES families and the wind and rain could not dampen the spirits of the very happy children.  Thanks to everyone and have a very Happy Halloween!
