The Rancho Murieta Association's Summer Rec program staged a talent show for families and friends Wednesday evening at Lake Clementia Amphitheater. There was a barbecue -- with food donated by the Optimist Club -- and then the entertainment, like the fourth-graders doing a "Banana Phone" dance, below, and the 3-year-olds singing "Old McDonald" with some coaching by counselor Katie Hallam, bottom.

There was cake and there were presents, but, in the end, what meant the most to librarian Linda G. Howe was the opportunity to talk with well-wishers who came to say goodbye Wednesday, the last day she parked the Wanderer Bookmobile in front of the Murieta Village Clubhouse. Howe is retiring after spending most of her 35 years with the Sacramento County library system as the proprietor of the rolling library that makes weekly visits to Rancho Murieta. Hundreds of people turned out at Lake Clementia Amphitheater Saturday for a concert that began in a breezy afternoon and continued into the evening. Friends of the Perez family organized the fundraiser for resident Alberto Perez, who was recently diagnosed with kidney disease and is unable to work while undergoing dialysis and seeking a kidney donor. Rancho Murieta's newest Eagle Scouts are, from left, Robert Meyer, Blake Hurdle, Matt Kalmanson and Drew Moore. The Troop 633 Scouts were honored at the Eagle Court of Honor ceremony Sunday afternoon at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church's social hall, attended by about 175 people. Bagpiper Steve McKinney played "America the Beautiful" to user in the solemn ceremony honoring the scouts, their parents, mentors, troop leader Mori Graf and former troop leader David Scharlach.

The Kiwanis Club's video arcade brought the community's children to the Rancho Murieta Association Building Saturday afternoon with an end-of-school celebration that went on into the evening for teens. Robert Schumacher and his daughter Kaira, 4, kept Jeffrey Pealer, 6, company as he honed his driving skills.

Photo: South Gate overhang -- back in place

The Operating Engineers, with the assistance of RMA Maintenance, replaced the South Gate overhang Wednesday morning. The structure was hit by a too-tall truck last August. Repairs were delayed by problems with the supports, which weren't built according to blueprints, the RMA said. The RMA plans to stucco the pillars once the structure is inspected.
