There was 750 pounds of crab for the cracking at Saturday night’s Kiwanis Crab Feed at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, but that wasn’t the only delicacy offered. Servers circulated with pricey caviar and two kinds of icy vodka, and patrons like Sam Somers Jr. swallowed a bump of caviar from the back of their hand and chased it with a small chug of vodka. That's Nancy Mazzoni serving the caviar. About 300 people chatted at their tables or bid on dozens of silent-auction items as music played. The event was a Kiwanis partnership with the Knights of Columbus. The servers were members of the Kiwanis Key Club, high schoolers who are the Kiwanians of the future. Click photos for larger images. Coat Dinner

It may have been damp and rainy outside, but it was warm and friendly inside for the annual Coat Dinner held at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church Friday night. Organizers said this was the 14th year that coats, jackets and sleeping bags were exchanged for a chili dinner among friends and neighbors. This year’s donations help families in Weed, Ore., where 100 homes were lost in a wildfire, and the homeless population served by Loaves and Fishes in Sacramento. The annual Coat Dinner, where the price of admission is a warm coat or a sleeping bag, filled the social hall of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church Friday evening. While some volunteers collected and bagged scores of coats, others prepared and served a homemade chili dinner that was enjoyed in fellowship and the spirit of the season. The bounty of warm items -- coats, sleeping bags, blankets, scarves, gloves and hats -- benefits the Loaves and Fishes and Union Gospel Mission programs for the homeless.
