Some unlikely models honor Mother's Day and raise funds too

I'm Too Sexy

"I'm Too Sexy" was the music for Steve Lacey's turn modeling an apron at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church's Mother's Day tea.  It was a charity fundraiser.  (Inside you'll find a slide show of other men in a similar predicament.)

Every mom was Queen Mum for a day at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church's Mother's Day community tea Sunday afternoon as dads donned aprons and served dainty tea sandwiches and cakes. Ham wasn't on the menu, but there was plenty of Rancho Murieta's finest on the runway as dads and kids modeled aprons for the charity auction. Bishop

Sacramento Bishop Emeritus William K. Weigard led a crowd of about 40 in prayers to dedicate and bless the columbarium at St. Vincent DePaul Cemetery Sunday morning. A statue of the saint tops the columbarium, which is a collection of niches for the ashes of the dead. The cemetery is located on Jackson Road in Murieta South. The bishop participated in a celebration of mass at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church before the blessing and a reception was held at the church's social hall after the ceremony. Bishop Weigand retired last year from his responsibilities as bishop for the Sacramento diocese after 14 years. He presided over a ceremony rededicating the cemetery, formerly known as St. Joseph's Pioneer Cemetery, eight years ago. Read more » about Bishop offers blessing at Murieta cemetery

Sausage hors d'oeuvres

Rancho Murieta's first Italian Festival, benefitting St. Vincent De Paul's outreach efforts, was a sell-out hit Sunday afternoon, with 200 paying customers spread around Lake Clementia Amphitheater. Event organizer Natachia Taylor was on the run throughout the day but found a few moments to distribute doggie treats, above. The festival featured food (like the sausage hors d'oeuvres at right), wine, crafts, a contest to produce the best one-hour spaghetti sauce (winning recipe below), a pooch parade, a grape-stomping event and a lot of neighborly socializing. It concluded with a spaghetti dinner and the music and singing of a strolling accordionist as the beautiful autumn day drew to a close.
