The social hall of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church was the place to be Saturday night as the Kiwanis Club partnered with the Knights of Columbus for a sold-out crab feed fundraising event. Women's Club holds first blood drive of 2016

The first community blood drive of 2016 was held Monday, and Barbara Wilson, assisted by Barbara Landeros of BloodSource, was one of the people who started the new year right by donating. The Rancho Murieta Women’s Club holds the drives four times a year at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church. Coordinator Sheryl Bray noted there were also several donations of platelets, and three fathers teamed up with their daughters to donate blood. The Rancho Murieta Women’s Club's holiday home tour delighted with four superbly decorated houses on the North and South Friday.  After a continental breakfast at the Country Club, the Spirit of Christmas in Rancho Murieta tour visited homes with a real flair for holiday decorating. The curving staircase at the Flores home, above, was one of many features that inspired oohs and ahhs by the holiday crowd. Breakfast and lunch events Nov. 11 for vets

Community volunteers have planned celebrations to honor veterans Nov. 11. The first Veterans Day celebration is a coffee and doughnuts social at the Villas Clubhouse on Murieta Parkway. That’s followed by a celebratory lunch at The Local Bean Cafe in Murieta Plaza.

The coffee and doughnuts social will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Men and women veterans are invited to attend for an informal opportunity to share experiences both past and present.  Volunteers will be stationed at the top parking lot near the Country Club and along the parkway, if needed, to transport attendees by golf cart.   Read more » about Breakfast and lunch events Nov. 11 for vets

Louise Gumbinger (model) and Vernon Wallace (eye candy) strolled onto the runway Wednesday for the Rancho Murieta Women's Club Fashion Show. More than 200 women attended the event and lunch, with a pre-fashion magic show, held in the Country Club's Murieta Room. The models wore a range of outfits, from evening elegance to golf duds. The models were Abegail Adams, Lou Ellen Blouw, Sylvia Compton, Ellison Cowles, Shirley Fruit, Louise Gumbinger, Bonnie Kirschman, Mila Kovalski, Nancy Latta, Pahl Martel, Stacia Matheny, Elizabeth Meyer, Ruth Lecheler-Moore and Vi Thatcher. Let Kiwanis make you a tri-tip dinner

You could plan next Tuesday, Aug. 18, as a "No-Cooking Night" and let the Kiwanis Club of Rancho Murieta prepare a tri-tip dinner for your dining pleasure.

Tri-tips will be smoked and barbecued at Gazebo Park by neighbor and certified BBQ judge DJ Martin. You drive through the lot to pick up your meal. The dinner feeds four and includes tri-tip roast, baked potatoes, salad, rolls and brownies. All that for $45.

Learn about fireworks safety 8 p.m. Saturday

These boys have some mad hatter skills

A group of boys were the first ones through the door at the RMA Thursday morning for a chance to select and decorate a hat for the July 4 hat contest sponsored by Kiwanis and Plaza Foods. The contest will take place at the July 4 Kiwanis breakfast at the Gazebo. The trophy, at right, with winner's name, will have an honored spot in the Plaza Foods deli section. It costs $2 to enter the contest (or three for $5 for a family). There's one more workshop -- 2 p.m. June 25 at the RMA Building. There's more info here.
