A cute pooch named Niner bested 28 other dogs in a game of musical hoops -- like musical chairs -- Saturday at Stonehouse Park. It was a day for the dogs most definitely, as the Rancho Murieta Rotary hosted its second DogFest. The free event had a costume parade (costumes included a banana, witches, hotdogs and a skunk), a silent auction, doggie races, a sheriff's K-9 demonstration, vendor booths, food, wine and more. Sacramento SPCA was the beneficiary of the day. Read more » about DogFest -- where every dog has his day

The week began with Music Mike for the little ones and by Saturday it was all about the grown-ups as the Kiwanis Club shifted gears to present the 11th annual Blues & Brews event on a velvet Indian summer evening at Lake Clementia Amphitheater. Tasting tents provided the crowd with a variety of locally produced beers and wines for sipping, food kiosks dispensed dinner-on-a-bun and desserts, and Rancho Murieta's own T'qeela Shotz played the blues according to the Rolling Stones, Van Morrison and other icons of rock. The event was sponsored by the Kiwanis Club, the Rancho Murieta Association and Plaza Foods to raise funds for community youth activities. Read more » about Blues, brews and a late-summer evening
