RMA closes bicycle track at Riverview Park

Pump track

SignA crew was at work Monday afternoon installing posts to fence off the volunteer-built bicycle pump track at Riverview Park on the South. The track allows bike riders to race up and down small hills and bumps. Rancho Murieta Association General Manager Greg Vorster said the park was being closed, at least temporarily, because the RMA board decided not to renew the park insurance due to low rider usage and high insurance cost. The RMA is trying to get the facility added to the RMA's general liability policy, Vorster said, allowing the track to be used when it's staffed, but only then, which would be a change in the track's operation. It opened in July 2013 after being built by volunteers. You can see the track in use in this video from its dedication. Click photo for larger image.
