RMA gathers ideas on tennis-pickleball flap

Pickleball-tennis meeting

David Rhodes was among the speakers Wednesday night as 17 people gathered in a back room at the Rancho Murieta Association Building to try to help the RMA balance the demand by tennis and pickleball players on the community's two tennis courts, at Riverview Park. Pickleball fans appeared at June's RMA board meeting and asked for court hours dedicated to pickleball. Recreation Committee Chair Tim Maybee entertained a number of ideas at Wednesday's meeting and offered some of his own. Among the ideas discussed were building dedicated pickleball courts (possibly with funding help from the community's service organizations), striping existing basketball courts to allow pickleball and putting up lights at Riverview Park to extend the hours of play. Maybee said he would take the suggestions to the board, but one idea from the crowd seemed likely to be launched ASAP – implementing tennis etiquette, which calls for a singles match to last no more than 60 minutes when players are waiting for the court and for doubles play to end after 90 minutes if others are waiting. Adding catfish and bluegill to Laguna Joaquin

Bucket of fish

Rancho Murieta’s fish population got a boost Tuesday as 400 catfish and 200 bluegills found a new home in Laguna Joaquin. Luke Leonard of Fresh Water Fish Company released buckets of both at two coves on the lake known to be breeding areas for midge flies.  Rancho Murieta Association Maintenance Manager Rod Hart and RMA Director Larry Shelton, who oversaw the release, explained that the fish are part of an effort to control the insect infestations, improve water quality and add to recreational fishing at the lake. Shelton is the co-chair of the Midge Fly Ad Hoc Committee. Last month the RMA board voted to spend $1,800 to stock the lake, sharing the cost with Murieta Townhouses Inc., which is contributing $1,000. Below are a couple of bluegills.

Greenfield will switch remaining cable homes

Greenfield Communications plans to shut down the old Rancho Murieta Association cable TV feed and move all remaining customers, about 550 North homes, to Greenfield’s fiber TV service on Tuesday and Wednesday. The change will lower the cable bill for those customers from $49 a month to $40. If you're one of the homes, here's what you need to know.

In June, Greenfield will also upgrade internet service for all customers on the old RMA system to 20 Mbps downloads and 3 Mbps uploads and lower the bill to $27 a month. These North homes aren't yet on the new fiber system, which is expected to reach them this summer.

See the Greenfield announcement here. Read more » about Greenfield will switch remaining cable homes
