Parents get to back their CRES stars

Bids

The evening was called “Let’s Support Our Stars ... Our Students,” and Saturday night’s gathering at the Country Club did just that, raising funds for the Cosumnes River Elementary School PTA. Taylor Johnson, the PTA vice president, encourages bids on Disneyland tickets, above, and Sean and Kristy Donnalley photograph the star with the photo of their daughter, Abigail, below. The PTA president, Jenny Williams, thought it was a great first-time event, with almost 150 tickets sold. Attendees, who were asked to wear “cocktail party best,” enjoyed a buffet dinner, bid on silent and live auction items and were entertained by DJ Chris Perris. Desserts made by PTA members were a big hit in the live auction, with cakes going for as much as $300. A dinner for four at the fire station went for $600. Those Disneyland tickets? $1,000. Dad-Daughter Dance is back to the '50s

Dancing

Saturday night's Father-Daughter Dance at Cosumnes River Elementary school had a sock hop theme, which meant poodle skirts, saddle shoes and the like for girls who'd probably never seen such strange garb before. Appropriately attired, and dancing up a storm, were Justin Hayduk and daughter Addison. The theme seemed popular with the dads, who looked like they spent more time dancing than usual before retiring to the sidelines and leaving the dance floor to the girls. But wait – there's more. Read more » Read more » about Dad-Daughter Dance is back to the '50s

A new dance, under the (black) lights

Black-light dance

It was time to glow Saturday evening at Cosumnes River Elementary School as the PTA staged its first mother-son dance. True to advance billing, this was not your traditional dance. For one thing, there were no wallflowers. Well, not among the boys anyway. Inspired by black lights, neon and non-stop music, for quite a while the boys dominated the dance floor with high-energy hip-hop moves while their moms looked on or danced in satellite groups. The activity level stayed high with air hockey, ping pong, Twister and other games. (Click the photo for a larger image.) Read more » about A new dance, under the (black) lights
