The Country Club's Men’s Club recently presented head coach John Russ of Pleasant Grove High School boys' golf team a check for $620, the proceeds from the "Big Break Challenge" during last fall's Prospector tournament. Everyone dressed for a gala night on the town Saturday as the Cosumnes River Elementary School PTA held its annual Father-Daughter Dance. The school’s multi-purpose room sparkled with blue, white and silver decorations and even the food table reflected the evening’s “Let it Snow” theme. Two photo booths, a formal portrait taken at check-in and lots of cell phone pictures captured memories that will continue long after the last dance. CRES stops to remember a beloved teacher

A bench and garden on campus were dedicated Thursday to the memory of longtime Cosumnes River Elementary teacher Ronelle Miller-Findlay.

The campus of Cosumnes River Elementary School paused Thursday afternoon to remember Ronelle Miller-Findlay, a longtime teacher who died last month at age 55. With everyone dressed to the nines, Cosumnes River Elementary's Father-Daughter Dance got started Saturday night with a conga-line stroll led by music teacher David Sault, who sang "When the Saints Go Marching In."  The annual event is staged by the CRES PTA. Princesses and superheroes, kitty cats and bears, knights and monsters. They all mingled happily at the Cosumnes River Elementary School Harvest Festival Sunday afternoon even as they competed for top honors in the costume contest. There was also a chili competition, a pumpkin pie eating contest, a haunted house to visit (if you dared) and plenty of games to play. The annual event is sponsored by the CRES PTA. Off and running to help a neighbor

Race start

The Great Pumpkin Race brought people of all ages to Lake Clementia Park Sunday morning for a 5K and 10K run/walk and kids' fun run. The race was sponsored by the Cosumnes River Elementary School PTA as a benefit for the Doreen Ntale family.   Doreen Ntale, a young Rancho Murieta mother of three, is fighting a rare form of cancer. Registration open for Pleasant Grove lacrosse

Registration runs through Nov. 3 for the 2014 season of the Pleasant Grove Lacrosse Club. Fees are $325 for U13, U15, JV, Varsity, and $295 for U11. Registration fees include a concussion management program, jersey, shorts, and sponsor t-shirt. A $50 late fee will be applied to registrations from November 4-10.

Practices begin in mid-January. Games will be played from early March through the end of the school year.

A Saturday-morning prowl for treasures

RooftopTrash 'n' Treasure, the annual community yard sale, set up shop on the grounds of Cosumnes River Elementary School Saturday with more than 100 vendors, many under umbrellas and tents to beat the heat. Hundreds turned out to shop the bargains. Trash 'n' Treasure is organized by the CRES PTA. There were toys for the kids, plenty of furniture (even antique rockers), a range of sports equipment (with special emphasis on golf), and an oasis of greenery thanks to the River Valley Garden Club booth.
