It's official: Cosumnes River Elementary School students helped set a Guinness world record for the most people skipping rope at the same time in multiple locations. The new record, with hundreds of Rancho Murieta children taking part,  is 70,880 kids jumping rope at 294 venues, surpassing the old record of 59,000 handily. Elk Grove schools are bracing for worst budget year yet

The good news is, there’s a state-of-the-art elementary school that will open this fall to serve Rancho Murieta’s children. But the long-awaited Cosumnes River Elementary School arrives during a state funding crisis that has the Elk Grove Unified School District looking for ways to cut $60.5 million from its 2010-2011 budget. Class sizes are being increased as staffing for classrooms and libraries is being cut and programs are being dropped. Performing arts fundraiser Thursday

The Pleasant Grove High School Performing Arts Department presents "The Art of Broadway in the Black Box: A Celebration Fundraiser" at 5 p.m. Thursday in the Black Box Theater on campus.

The event begins with a free Art Walk that showcases photos, ceramics and studio art. The cabaret dinner show begins at 6 p.m. and features Broadway musical performances from students in the music and drama programs. There will also be a special guest performance by Soul Purpose Dance Company.

OKC Corral brings back the Wild West

Monte Carlo-style gambling was a big crowd-pleaser at OKC Corral Saturday night at Murieta Equestrian Center. The fundraiser with the Wild West theme is put on annually by the Optimist Club, the Kiwanis Club and Cosumnes River Elementary School PTA to benefit local youth activities and CRES programs.

Pleasant Grove girls lacrosse hosts day of competition May 2

The Pleasant Grove Lacrosse Club Varsity Girls team will host club high school teams from Chico, Redding, Orangevale, Nevada City and Rancho Cotati for a full day of games Sunday, May 2. It's a great opportunity for girls in sixth to 11th grades -- and their parents -- to see what girls' lacrosse is all about.

Girls’ lacrosse is a fast-paced game played on a field the size of a football field (including the end zones). Twelve players take the field from each team (11 plus a goalie) and play non-stop (except for timeouts) 25-minute halves. Games are fast paced, fast moving and include on-the-fly substitutions. Hundreds of CRES jump-ropers join attempt at world record

The kids were on every bit of paved area at Cosumnes River Elementary Monday morning, trying to set a world record for jumping rope.

Hundreds of Cosumnes River Elementary School pupils started Monday with 10 minutes of jump rope in a statewide effort to set a new Guinness world record for the most people jumping rope at the same time. A dozen people toured the new campus of Cosumnes River Elementary School Friday afternoon, passing by the administrative building that will be the school’s entrance. It’s located across from a large parking area.

After pupils left Friday for the holiday weekend, Cosumnes River Elementary School staff members took a short walk along the muddy shoulder of Highway 16 to reach a freshly paved road that leads to the campus being built next door. School district community board meetings will be held Feb. 2

Elk Grove Unified School District board members will hold their annual community board meetings Feb. 2 at schools throughout the district.  The seven trustees hold the sessions annually.

The meetings are a chance to hear an update about the district, learn how the state budget is affecting Elk Grove schools and ask questions.  The meetings also feature a student performance or presentation.
