Elk Grove school board approves purchase of land for school

The purchase of about 17.5 acres of property for the new Cosumnes River Elementary School was approved Tuesday night by the Elk Grove Unified School District board.  The district will open an escrow account for the purchase, and escrow is expected to close by the end of next month, culminating in the district taking title to the property. The Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Education will take action to purchase land for the new Cosumnes River Elementary School at its meeting Tuesday.

“Assuming the board approves that purchase agreement, we would quickly move to open escrow … and take title to the property. We’re excited about it,” Robert Pierce, associate superintendent for facilities and planning for the school district, said in a phone interview this week.

The school board unanimously approved a $900,000 purchase option for 15 acres surrounding the school in January 2008. Recycling event Jan. 17, 18

The Pleasant Grove High Band Boosters Club hosts a free electronic waste recycling event Saturday, Jan. 17, and Sunday, Jan. 18, from 9 a.m. to and 3 p.m. in the parking lot at Pleasant Grove High School, 9531 Bond Road, Elk Grove. Free document shredding will be available at the Saturday event.

Band students will assist YNot Recycle, a state-certified e-waste collector and recycler, to collect TVs, computers, cell phones and other electronic equipment, including batteries. Household appliances will not be accepted. Lists of acceptable and unacceptable items, and information about the event are available on the Boosters Club web site. Pancake breakfast fundraiser Jan. 17

The Pleasant Grove Junior Eagle Cheerleaders have qualified for the national competition to be held in Disneyland Feb. 28. Residents can support the squad by attending a fundraiser pancake breakfast cheerleaders are holding Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Rancho Murieta Association Building from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Proceeds from the event will be used to offset competition fees. A lost art teaches kids about warm hearts and warm heads

The 38 pupils in the Cosumnes River Elementary School Knitting Club are learning an age-old skill and sharing their accomplishments.

Girls and boys in the Cosumnes River Elementary School Knitting Club turned a classroom into a hub of activity on a frosty winter day Wednesday, knitting cold-weather gear for themselves, friends, family members and people they have never met. School board OKs contingency plans for pupils during CRES construction

Contingency plans to address the needs of Cosumnes River Elementary pupils during months of school construction were approved by the district school board Tuesday night.

The plans, outlined by Associate Superintendent L. School board will act on task force suggestions for CRES construction

The Elk Grove Unified School District board of trustees will take action Tuesday night on recommendations for construction of a new school it received last month from the Cosumnes River Elementary School task force.

The 20-member task force considered how students can be accommodated while a new facility is built on the present school site, on Jackson Road west of Rancho Murieta. The board meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Robert L. Trigg Education Center,  9510 Elk Grove-Florin Road, Elk Grove.
