Greenfield will switch remaining cable homes

Greenfield Communications plans to shut down the old Rancho Murieta Association cable TV feed and move all remaining customers, about 550 North homes, to Greenfield’s fiber TV service on Tuesday and Wednesday. The change will lower the cable bill for those customers from $49 a month to $40. If you're one of the homes, here's what you need to know.

In June, Greenfield will also upgrade internet service for all customers on the old RMA system to 20 Mbps downloads and 3 Mbps uploads and lower the bill to $27 a month. These North homes aren't yet on the new fiber system, which is expected to reach them this summer.

Has Greenfield found the electrical problem?

Greenfield Communications says it worked over the weekend to try to address the electrical issues that have repeatedly disrupted the community’s cable TV and internet services in recent weeks. They say they may have identified the problem.

From the beginning, it was understood the problem was the wiring at the community’s “head end,” the clearinghouse for cable and internet data, but finding the specific electrical issue has been a challenge.

For customers, the problems began Aug. 11, when an underground SMUD line failed, knocking out power to the head end. SMUD used a looped circuit to reinstate power almost immediately and finalized its repair Friday. But Greenfield says problems have persisted at the head end, as something keeps blowing fuses. And this month they’re the subject of an article in Consumer Reports magazine. As you would expect, CR has some advice to help you deal with the unwanted calls and a step you can take to help us all.

Murieta South is first in line for fiber service

The company operating the community’s cable system has changed its rollout plans for the new fiber network.  Murieta South will get the service first, Greenfield Communications told the Rancho Murieta Association Wednesday.

“We are starting this Monday deploying fiber in all the South,” Ryan Waggaman, Greenfield’s project manager for Rancho Murieta, told the RMA’s Communications Committee.  “We’ll probably see in the next four to six weeks fiber reaching to every home.  Splicing will follow two weeks behind that.  And service installs probably about two to four weeks after the splicing team starts.” Read more » about Murieta South is first in line for fiber service
