A dozen trees felled by weekend storms

Tree

The weekend's storms made this a common scene Monday morning. This redwood, at Guadalupe and Terreno drives, split and hung up in the branches of adjacent redwoods until a tree crew arrived and did some careful surgery to keep the tree from landing on the house. In addition to destroying the bald eagles' nest at Lake Clementia and the Signorotti hops kilns on Jackson Road, the storms damaged or destroyed at least a dozen trees around the community, the Rancho Murieta Association reported Monday. Here’s an edited 70-second Sunday drive along Scott Road. (Not that we recommend it; we tell friends and loved ones to use Sunrise Boulevard.) Paddling along a flooded Scott Road

If you’ve ever wondered what Scott Road looks like when it’s flooded, let this satisfy your curiosity.  Neighbor Damon Mercado, driving a high-riding SUV, captured this video around 1 p.m. Friday, when Deer Creek was just one foot above flood stage, according to the sensors on the creek.  We’re not suggesting you attempt this -- ever.  (How much time do you save driving a flooded road, and is that worth risking your life?)

Hardware store

Jennifer Busfield was among the shoppers who hit Ace Hardware Wednesday in search of storm supplies.  She was buying a flashlight and batteries, which, as the pegboard shows, were very popular.  The store said other popular items were tarps and rope.

The National Weather Service says the pending storm will be like the one we experienced in early January 2008.  (Let's hope not.)  We will be online to bring you news from the storm, even if power goes out and we're all looking at the site on our cell phones.

  • We'll update news here, on Facebook and on Twitter.  (Follow us there if you don't already.)
  • If you're aware of any storm damage or other news, please alert us at 354-3916 or editor@ranchomurieta.com. Let's help each other. Stay safe.
