Two injured, one critically, in accident at RM Airport

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire responded when the aircraft crashed around 9:45 Thursday morning.
[Updated 12:29 p.m.] Two men in a small, experimental aircraft were injured when the plane skidded, ran off the runway at Rancho Murieta Airport and flipped over about 9:45 a.m. Thursday. One man was critically injured and was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center, according to Capt. Christian Pebbles of Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District. Planning group hears proposed changes for Airport, Sloughhouse Inn
Published July 30, 2010A plan to add storage for recreational vehicles and boats on 15 acres of unused property at Rancho Murieta Airport made its debut at the Cosumnes Community Planning Advisory Council Wednesday evening. The council also heard a proposal intended to divide the historic Sloughhouse Inn property to help sell it and a request for a use permit authorizing the present scope of operations at the Davis Ranch produce stand. Sunday was a big day at Rancho Murieta Airport, with a display of vintage airplanes and an Experimental Aircraft Association Young Eagles event. While waiting for their ride in an airplane, Kylee, 7, and Jared Bettger, 10, along with their father, Bob Bettger, examined a 1944 Taylorcraft DCO-65 restored by Murieta pilot Dick Valladao. The Rancho Murieta EAA chapter holds several Young Eagles events each year, offering free rides to children between the ages of 7 and 17 to introduce them to aviation. Zac Bowers, who piloted one of the three planes that took children up into the clear blue skies, was once a Young Eagle himself. About 40 children participated in the event, organizers said.
Tree cutting at RM Airport means purchase of 26 acres of open space

County begins felling trees at Airport

The felling of 148 trees on county parkland next to the runway at Rancho Murieta Airport began Wednesday morning.
The tree-cutting at the Rancho Murieta Airport was already under way Wednesday morning when Sacramento County Deputy Parks Director Jill Ritzman led a media contingent from the airport parking lot to county parkland between the runway and the Cosumnes River. A backhoe was loading huge logs and leafy debris from felled black walnut trees into a truck on the dusty levee road as the group arrived. Read more »
