Cosumnes River

The area caught a break overnight, as the Cosumnes River didn't reach the forecast levels. Still, it was plenty high, with whitecaps rolling by the first green of the South Course Tuesday morning. A bunker there flooded 10 days ago, when the river damaged three of the course's holes, two of which remain under repair. Scott Road remained flooded Tuesday morning. Click photo for larger image. Club cleanup

Tee markerThe Country Club has been cleaning up since Saturday, trying to make the best of Mother Nature’s mess on Holes 10 and 11 of the South Course, which flooded Friday when the Cosumnes River rushed in. General Manager Bill Armstrong says they’ve got seven to 10 people on the job every day, and the work will continue for another week or 10 days. These shots were taken Monday, when workers were cleaning up the 10th tee, which was submerged halfway up the tee-box hill. (The marker stone, right, was completely submerged.) The South Course reopened for play Tuesday, minus Holes 10 and 11, which will be closed for another few weeks, Armstrong estimates. Five-year-old Kai Gran was more cautious than most, deciding to check out Santa and Mrs. Claus before stepping up and confiding his Christmas wish list at Sunday's Santa Brunch at the Country Club. The North Pole visitors chatted with children, parents took photos, and everyone enjoyed a holiday brunch. You can see Kai with his best friend Blake Wertzer, 5, and Blake's dad, Bryan, as they waited to see Santa. That photo is part of the gallery collection of 25 photos. Click photo for larger image. Wine and Wheels

Red square Photo gallery: 60 photos of the crowd and the fun

Music, wine, food and classic cars replaced golfers on the 18th fairway Sunday as the Rancho Murieta Country Club hosted its second Wine & Wheels event. Fifteen wineries from Amador County offered a variety of wines for tasting and food vendors served a multitude of foods -- pizza fresh from a fire-fed oven, open-pit BBQ, handmade tortillas and cold treats for a warm day. The crowd enjoyed the outdoor feast family-style at long tables. At the other end of the fairway, the clubhouse became a backdrop for gleaming vintage autos. (Click photo for larger image.)
