Summerfest carnival Aug. 24-25

The annual Summerfest Carnival, a fundraiser staged by community volunteers, takes place Aug. 24 and 25 at Stonehouse Park.

Summerfest 2004 

The event opens at 5 p.m. Friday with carnival rides, bounce houses, slides, food and refreshments, and a Texas Hold'em Poker tournament. The popular Hip Service band performs from 8:30 p.m. to the 11 p.m. close. Read more » about Summerfest carnival Aug. 24-25

It's a Murieta July 4 -- heat, fun and red, white and blue

Rancho Murieta's 2007 Fourth of July celebration had all the traditional elements – a red, white and blue parade led by fire trucks, an afternoon at the lake, and fireworks filling the night sky to end the day. Did we mention the temperature topped 100?

In the early morning cool, while the Kiwanis Club served up pancakes at the Gazebo, runners in the 25th annual Fun Run headed down Lago Drive to begin the 5K run. Once again Kyle Fujitsubo emerged as the fastest person in Rancho Murieta, breaking the 16:30 record he set last year with a time of 15:43.

Hundreds of people turned out at Lake Clementia Amphitheater Saturday for a concert that began in a breezy afternoon and continued into the evening. Friends of the Perez family organized the fundraiser for resident Alberto Perez, who was recently diagnosed with kidney disease and is unable to work while undergoing dialysis and seeking a kidney donor. With a Trash 'n' Treasure event at the Plaza and another at Murieta Village, Saturday was made for shoppers of all ages. At the Plaza, Anna Maloney, 8, selected jewelry with her mother. The annual yard sale events provided a wide range of goods for treasure seekers as well as a fundraising opportunity for community groups.

The Kiwanis Club's video arcade brought the community's children to the Rancho Murieta Association Building Saturday afternoon with an end-of-school celebration that went on into the evening for teens. Robert Schumacher and his daughter Kaira, 4, kept Jeffrey Pealer, 6, company as he honed his driving skills.
