Reports of brown water after North service interruption

The Community Services District received reports of discolored water from households on Puerto, Camino Del Lago, Camino Del Sol, Rio Oso and Orilla Way in Murieta North when water service resumed Thursday afternoon after a three-hour scheduled shutdown.

CSD General Manager Ed Crouse said the district received five complaints about brown water after service was restored in Units 3 and 4. He said workers are flushing water lines in the affected areas.

He asked residents who are experiencing the problem to notify the CSD by calling 354-3700, and to flush the lines in their homes until the water clears. Read more » about Reports of brown water after North service interruption

The Community Sevices District announced Tuesday that water service to Units 3 and 4 on the North will be shut off from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday as the district prepares to start its Rio Oso water tank rehabilitation project. The 1.2-million-gallon tank supplies about 30 percent of Murieta North households with potable water.

Notices about the interruption in water service were hung on the front doors of homes in Units 3 and 4 Tuesday afternoon.  Click the "attachment" link to see a CSD map of the affected area, which is the second Guadalupe and everything north of there. New labels aim to help Murietans do more recycling

Coming soon to a can near you -- a label with the dos and don'ts of recycling.

It will be part of an effort by the Community Services District to improve the community's track record in recycling because less than half of what residents place out in cans at the curb is now being recycled.

Instead, residents sent 53.6 percent of it to Kiefer Landfill in 2006, according to the company that contracts with the CSD to haul away the community's garbage, green waste and recyclables. Read more » about New labels aim to help Murietans do more recycling

Landowners urge CSD to help foster community-driven master plan

A modest Community Services District staff proposal to participate in updating the community's master plan was eclipsed at Wednesday's board meeting by a development representative's 10-step plan for a full update controlled and driven by community interests.

The starting point for both proposals was the July 18 meeting of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors, where the supervisors supported a planning staff recommendation for a minor update of the master plan. Read more » about Landowners urge CSD to help foster community-driven master plan

CSD finds almost 1 home in 10 isn't being billed enough for water

When Community Services District Director Bobbi Belton recently asked friends and neighbors about their water bills, she wanted to see how actual water usage compared with figures used in CSD planning documents.

Instead, the small sampling revealed an ongoing problem with the community's water meters that cost the district about $4,000 in lost revenue in June. It also raised questions about the reliability of water usage data in the Integrated Water Master Plan the CSD adopted last year.

What Belton found was several households were being charged just the base rate for their water use because their water meters weren't monitoring the amount of water they actually used. Read more » about CSD finds almost 1 home in 10 isn't being billed enough for water
