Seniors dominate in 22nd annual Murieta Cup
After nearly a month's delay due to rain, the 22nd Annual Murieta Cup was played Saturday & Sunday, Dec. 3 & 4.
Started in 1994 by Jack Robert's crew of Men's Club cronies, myself included, the competition has been fierce. The event pits the Senior Men's Club Board against the Men's Club Board in a Ryder Cup format. For years this outing was called the Flat Bellies against the Fat Bellies, but old age has caught up with the Flat Bellies so we're all Fat Bellies except for a few younger Men's Club guys. Captains were Steve Launey and Mike Whalen.
Day one was team competition in a Best Ball format. Seniors dominated the event with 2 wins and 4 ties grabbing a 4 to 2 edge. Sunday was individual matches. The Seniors kicked the butts of the Men's Club by a whopping 8 to 4 margin. Final Score was 12-6, an old fashioned trouncing would best describe the results.
Team results by Boards were:
Senior's: Czerkies (2-0), Launey (2-0), Hoskins (1 1/2- 1/2), Maglionico (2-0), Hoskins (1 1/2-1/2), Pritchard (2-0), Contini (1/2-1 1/2), Benjamin (1/2-1 1/2), Denham 1/2-1), J Krueger (1 1/2-1/2), J Crawford (1/2- 1), (Bulldog) Armstrong (1 1/2-1/2, McCabe (1/2-1/2), Raggio (1-0)
Men's Club: Whalen (0-2), Gransee (0-2), Hottman 1/2-1 1/2), Guertin (1-1), M Martel (1 1/2-1/2), Kwan (1-1), Alves (1/2-1 1/2), Ozanich (1/2-1 1/2), Lewis (1/2-1 1/2), Smith (1 1/2-1/2), Frost (1/2-1 1/2), Machen (1/2-1/2), Underwood (0-1).
