CSD votes to explore land purchases

After a conversation that lasted more than an hour, the Community Services District board voted unanimously Wednesday night to begin exploring the possible acquisition of Country Club and lakeside land in the community. Scouts sell pumpkins Oct. 13, 14 and 20

Boy Scout Troop 633 holds its annual pumpkin sale Oct. 13, 14 and 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. across from the Plaza. It's the biggest fundraiser of the year for the scouts, and an opportunity for residents to stock up on jack-o-lanterns, fixings for homemade pumpkin pie and seasonal decorations.

RM.com forced offline by spam

A spammer's takeover of RanchoMurieta.com's e-mail forced the site offline for about three hours Friday afternoon. The site's hosting company, WingSix, said the server was being used to send a flood of spam, impacting service for the company's other customers.

CRES one of 24 schools in state to win a 'Blue Ribbon'

Cosumnes River Elementary School is one of 24 schools in the state selected to receive the 2007 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Schools award. The award is considered one of the most prestigious in the country, the Elk Grove Unified School District said in announcing the achievement.

Former resident Bob Simpson dies at 88

Bob Simpson grew up on a farm in Indiana, the second of 11 children. As a teenager, he grew a small tobacco crop that earned him enough money to buy a mule, which he sold to pay for business school tuition.

It became the foundation for a successful career in agri-business.
