Joel and Bowie

Joel, the Band, celebrating Billy Joel, and Space Oddity, celebrating David Bowie, perform Saturday at Lake Clementia Amphitheater.

For decades, Billy Joel has produced glistening pop songs with East Coast roots and an appeal for all of America.  David Bowie gave his music a splash of glitter and took it to other places -- outer space, for one.  Both musicians will be celebrated Saturday night at Rancho Murieta's Lake Clementia Amphitheater.

Space Oddity and Joel, the Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. as Entertainment, Theatre & Culture brings another evening of music to Rancho Murieta.

Joel is billed as the West Coast’s premier Billy Joel cover band, performing Joel’s hits and original compositions.  The band is built around Kyle Martin, who has toured with the Tony-winning rock musical “Movin’ Out,” a stage tribute to Joel’s work.

Billy Joel has had dozens of hits over his career, starting with “Piano Man” four decades ago.  Others: “New York State of Mind,” “Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song),” “Only the Good Die Young,” “Just the Way You Are,” “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me” and many more.

Ch-ch-ch-changing it up a bit, David Brighton’s tribute to Bowie adds a bit of glitter to the evening, revisiting Bowie’s work from the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s. If you don’t know Bowie’s hits, you just haven’t been out dancing -- songs like “Fame,” “Young Americans,” “Let’s Dance” and “China Girl.”  But surely you know “Changes.”

The concert begins at 7:30, an hour earlier than usual.  Tickets are $25 for ETC members and $35 for non-members.
