John Mehigan, a 30-year resident of Rancho Murieta and Country Club member, died suddenly at his home Tuesday at the age of 76. A service for Mr. Mehigan and celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church on Cantova Way.
Mr. Mehigan made golf a way of life during his years as a Rancho Murieta resident and during a long and productive career in the golf business. Many enduring friendships began on the golf course and Mr. Mehigan is remembered for his camaraderie and sense of humor as well as his skill as a golfer.
John Mehigan was born June 21, 1935 in Dingle, County Kerry, Ireland. He came to the United States at the age of 21, and went into the U.S. Army. During his Army service, Mr. Mehigan's family remembers he had the honor of being a guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington, D.C.
John Mehigan's wife, Lori, died last year.
Mr. Mehigan entered the golf business as an assistant PGA golf professional and became an independent golf representative in the mid 1960s.
Mr. Mehigan was preceded in death by his wife, Lori, who died last May. Family and friends describe her as the love of his life. Mr. Mehigan is survived by their son, Steven, of Sacramento, and family members in Ireland that include his brothers, Michael and David; sisters, Berna O’Mahony and Jo Duggan, and nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that people who wish to make donations to the charity of their choice in Mr. Mehigan’s name.
