Flag retirement

FlagsIn what has become a Memorial Day tradition, Boy Scout Troop 633 retired tattered and worn U.S. flags Monday evening before a small, respectful crowd at Lake Calero. Piper Chuck Jamison accompanied the scouts with bagpipe airs as they unfurled each flag and committed it to the flames. This year 75 flags were collected in the community for the solemn retirement rite. The 12th annual ceremony began with a tribute to those who have served their country. Then scouts told the group that the flag is a symbol of the freedom and ideals the United States has fought for in wars and battles where the flag has flown. Click photos for larger images.
