Rancho Murieta's Bandits, who play in the Gold Country Vintage Base Ball League, won their third California Cup title in four years over the weekend at Stonehouse Park. They defeated the New Almaden Cinnabars 8-1 Saturday to move into Sunday's championship game against the Mother Lode Miners. The Bandits won that game 9-4 for the title.  Here's a video look at the team and their game, old-time "base ball."

Bandits Win!

Bandits Win!

The Rancho Murieta Bandits capped off another GCVBB Championship season with a California Cup. The Bandits proved victorious 9-4 over fellow GCVBB club, the Mother Lode Miners.

The Bandit bats would not be denied on this day, as the home town favorites stormed out to grab 4 tallies in both the first and second innings. Scott "Leather" Oltmanns led the charge with a double and round tripper. The Miners mounted a comeback, and plated 3 runs in the 3rd, and another solo tally to keep things tight. But with the Bandits' strong hitting from across the line-up, and solid defensive play, this day belonged to the Bandits.

Over the weekend, there were many standout performances at the plate, and in the field, including fine leather from Greg "Bacon" Jorgensen, and 14 innings of solid behind work from "Leather" Oltmanns. However, the California Cup MVP award went to Matt "Splint" Corsaut, as he tossed a solid 11 frames in the two day tournament, and remained a force at the plate.

Huzzah to the Rancho Murieta Bandits, and Huzzah to the Rancho Murieta cranks for the wonderful support they bring to this team, and the community.

Looking forward to another great season in 2014!
