Dorothy "Dottie" Bancroft might well have been the quintessential Murieta gentlewoman of a certain age, although just what that age was, she wouldn't tell. Former resident Bob Simpson dies at 88

Bob Simpson grew up on a farm in Indiana, the second of 11 children. As a teenager, he grew a small tobacco crop that earned him enough money to buy a mule, which he sold to pay for business school tuition.

Longtime Murietan Bob Satterley dies at 63

Bob Satterley grew up loving golf. He played on his high school golf team in Patchogue, NY, and worked as a caddie and assistant golf pro at Bellport Country Club in New York.

He always dreamed of living on a golf course, and he fulfilled that dream when he moved to Rancho Murieta 27 years ago with his wife and son.

Mr. Satterley died peacefully at the age of 63 Sept. 12 with his family at his side. In a fitting memorial, friends and family will celebrate his life at the Rancho Murieta Country Club Sunday. Read more » about Longtime Murietan Bob Satterley dies at 63

Justin Nelson, who fought leukemia, dies at 15

Justin Nelson's 6½-year struggle against leukemia came to an end Monday, when he died at the age of 15.

A prayer service will take place 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John Vianney Church, 10497 Coloma Road, Rancho Cordova. There will be a private burial at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery in Rancho Murieta.

Bill Nichelmann, avid golfer and longtime Murietan, dies at 78

Friends say Will "Bill" Nichelmann combined a gruff exterior with a kind heart that responded to those in need, especially children.

At Christmas, he bought presents for children who might not otherwise have any. On the Fourth of July, he decorated his golf cart, gathered up his beloved dogs -- Rumor, Sophie and Nelson -- and was part of the parade down the parkway.

During the time she coordinated the event for the Community Club, Virginia Nichelmann, his wife of 22 years, rode in the fire truck leading the parade. 

Mr. Nichelmann was an avid golfer whose life came to an end after he was stricken by a heart attack Saturday and collapsed on the driving range at the Country Club. He was 78. Read more » about Bill Nichelmann, avid golfer and longtime Murietan, dies at 78
