Janet Watson, golf and poker fan, dies at 78

Longtime Murietan Janet Watson is remembered as a woman who loved golf, poker with the ladies and, most of all, shopping. She died May 18 at age 78 after a four-year battle with cancer. She will be celebrated in a service 11 a.m. June 3 at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church on Cantova Way.

Family and friends say this of her: “She had an uncanny eye for interior decoration, she was always more than happy to lend a helping hand. Janet was always trying new recipes in the kitchen as her cooking was another asset that she was more than happy to share with all that enjoyed her culinary knack.”

Longtime Murietan Thomas Craig dies at 83

Services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday for Thomas A. Craig Jr., a longtime Murietan who died May 13 at age 83. Mass will be held at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church on Cantova Way.

Mr. Craig and his wife, Mary Lou, moved to Rancho Murieta to retire in 1999 and find time for the sports they had loved for years, tennis and golf. Decades earlier, he had teamed with Sacramento marketing legend Jean Runyon to create an advertising agency, a field where he prospered for many years.

May 19 celebration of life for Jason Keating

A celebration of life for Jason Keating, remembered as a man who brightened the lives he touched, will be held 1 p.m. May 19 at Rancho Murieta Country Club. Mr. Keating, 47, died in a vehicle accident last week on Jackson Road.

A note from his family mentions his “uncanny ability to brighten every moment with his quick wit and silliness.” It adds, “Everyone who knew Jason was moved by his kindness, inspiration and thoughtfulness. He approached every dimension of his life with a passion, zest and zeal that left a lasting imprint on all of us.”

Marilyn Carney, longtime Murietan, dies at 75

Longtime resident Marilyn Carney died at her home April 12 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 75. Longtime Murietan Dorothy Horalek dies at 84

Longtime Murietan Dorothy Horalek died Wednesday at age 84. She was an active golfer during her two decades in Rancho Murieta. She and her husband, Jim, were active in local groups from the time they came to Murieta, in the 1980s. She is survived by two children, three grandchildren and her twin brother, Dick Stevens. Murietan James Kirschman dies at 70

Cara Hutchinson, arts leader, dies at 53

A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday for Cara D. Hutchinson, president of the Arts Council of El Dorado County, who died suddenly in her Rancho Murieta home May 15.  She was 53 and had lived in Rancho Murieta for two years.  Her parents, Helga Tixel and the late Reinhard Tixel, lived here for many years.

She was born in San Francisco in 1962, was raised in San Carlos and lived in Diamond Springs from 2005 to 2013. She was employed by Franklin Templeton Investments for 26 years, working in Luxembourg, Florida and Northern California and rising from a temporary office worker to a director of the company.

CRES stops to remember a beloved teacher

A bench and garden on campus were dedicated Thursday to the memory of longtime Cosumnes River Elementary teacher Ronelle Miller-Findlay.

The campus of Cosumnes River Elementary School paused Thursday afternoon to remember Ronelle Miller-Findlay, a longtime teacher who died last month at age 55.
