Community, business leader Bob Ling dies

Bob Ling, a community and business leader and longtime Murietan, died April 12 at his home. He was 83. In Michigan, where he started his business life, and in Rancho Cordova and Rancho Murieta, Mr. Ling served in a variety of community positions. Chuck, the famed Murieta Plaza cat, is dead

Chuck was a fixture at Murieta Plaza for two decades.

Services are Saturday for Murietan Neil Strain

A memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday for Neil Strain, half of a Rancho Murieta couple whose volunteerism benefited the community for years.  He died Feb. 27 at the age of 82.  His wife of 63 years, Jackie, died in November after a long battle with cancer.

Saturday’s Mass will be held at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church on Cantova Way.  The family will hold a reception at the house afterwards.

“Most of all I think of Neil's laugh,” Pamela Haines remembered in a tribute to Mr. Strain. “He was an easy-going kind of guy.  That did not stop him from being incredibly dedicated and productive in many different ways.  He was an amazing husband, dad and grandpa.  He was a great friend and inspiration in many different ways.” Read more » about Services are Saturday for Murietan Neil Strain

Former Murietan Jack Fielstra dies at 72

Memorial service is Sunday for Dick Cox

A memorial service for former RMA President Dick Cox will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Country Club.  He died last month at age 78.

Murieta pioneer Bob Mead dies at 98

A celebration of life will be held Feb. 8 for Bob Mead, a man who helped set the course of Rancho Murieta Village. He died Jan. 18 at the age of 98. Lifelong volunteer Jackie Strain dies at 81

Jackie Strain, a volunteer without peer in her 15 years in Rancho Murieta, died Nov. 25 after several battles with cancer.  She was 81. Services will be held at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church on Cantova Way at 10 a.m. Friday.

Although her volunteerism started before she and her husband, Neil, moved to Rancho Murieta, Mrs. Strain was especially devoted to the Kiwanis and its works. Pamela Haines, who volunteered alongside Mrs. Strain in a number of those efforts, called her an inspiration.

“She always included her family and community when living her life,” Haines wrote in an email. “She didn't shy away from challenges or difficult issues. Any project she adopted, she made it better.
