Bill McIntyre, community volunteer, dies at 87

Bill McIntyre was well into his 70s when he served on the Rancho Murieta Association Communications Committee that helped launch broadband internet service here a dozen years ago. Instead of viewing the new medium with apprehension, he volunteered to create a website for the RMA. Last year, as Mr. McIntyre, in declining health, and his wife, Betty, prepared to move from the community,  he mentioned his role in bringing high-speed internet service to Rancho Murieta with pride. Mr. McIntyre died in Carmichael Sept. 26 at the age of 87. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 5057 Cottage Way, Carmichael. 'Captain Bill' Nehring dies at 70

Neighbor Wayne Rabourn dies at 67

Longtime Rancho Murieta resident Wayne Rabourn died at his home this week at age 67.  He had been in poor health the last year, requiring him to give up golf, a favorite pastime.  He also enjoyed “shaking the dice” with friends at the club and visiting with others at local restaurants. Longtime neighbor William Kohlman dies at 89

William Kohlman, a Rancho Murieta resident since 1997, died July 28 at the age of 89. An outstanding athlete in his youth, Mr. Kohlman enjoyed playing golf with his sons and shared a home in the Fairways with one of them, the late James Kohlman.

“He was a wonderful man,” said former Murietan Sue Sipe. “I was not his daughter-in-law, but he treated me like I was and I looked at him as a father-in-law as well.”  After James Kohlman’s untimely death four years ago, Sipe and his father continued to live in the Fairways home he designed and built to accommodate two separate households under one roof. After the house was sold,  Mr. Kohlman resided in the Villas. He spent his last months with his son Thomas and daughter-in-law Nancy in Jackson, where he died peacefully, Sipe said. Longtime Murietan Claudia Taylor dies at 79

A memorial service will be held for former Murietan Claudia Taylor 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church,  307 Montrose Drive, Folsom. Mrs. Taylor died June 17 at the age of 79.

Claudia and Dick Taylor relocated to Rancho Murieta about 20 years ago to escape Bay Area congestion. They were thinking of settling in Placerville when “a family member suggested we look in Rancho Murieta, and that was it,” Dick recalled. Early Murietan Isabelle Zuercher dies at 95

Stewart Roth, 40-year Murietan, dies at 82

Rancho Murieta lost one of its earliest residents this month when Stewart Roth died Feb. 10 at the age of 82. Mr. Roth bought a lot in 1973, when development of the North began.  In 1977, he built a house and moved his young family from Elk Grove. Jerry Sather, once RM's Santa, dies at 80

Former resident Jerry Sather, who played Santa Claus for Rancho Murieta’s children for many years, died in Folsom Sept. 25 with his family at his side.  He was 80.  In retirement, Mr. Sather dedicated himself to playing golf at Rancho Murieta Country Club. During his travels with Muriel, his wife of 57 years, he always planned tee times.

In addition to his love of golf, sense of humor and repertoire of jokes, Mr. Sather is remembered in Rancho Murieta for a special role he played. Engineer/teacher Jim Paravantes dies at 87

Jim Paravantes had a knack for doing the unexpected. He was an aerospace engineer until he decided at age 40 to go back to school and embark on a teaching career. As a newlywed, he went to square dance lessons to please his wife, Sally, and ended up becoming a professional caller. He raised bees in the backyard of their Sunnyvale home and once drove off with two hives buzzing in the back seat of their car. A Navy veteran, he was active in an association that brings together shipmates of the aircraft carrier he served on during World War II. Peter Saevke, avid club member, dies at 78

After a courageous seven-month fight with lung cancer, Murietan Peter Saevke died peacefully June 9 surrounded by his family.  He was 78. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. June 26 at Karmere winery, 11970 Shenandoah Road, Plymouth.

When Peter and Barbara Saevke moved to Rancho Murieta 12 years ago, he immediately became active with the Senior Mens’ Golf Club. Peter and Barbara loved the club’s bridge games, Monday Night Football celebrations, Domino Group, and especially their Wine and Gourmet group. Mr. Saevke was an avid reader, and was happy to offer his advice on nearly any subject, especially pruning roses.
