Cable issue prompts lengthy discussion about RMA post

The Rancho Murieta Association board selected officers and committee chairs at its organization meeting Monday night. Naming the Communications Committee chair took 40 minutes, as board members expressed frustration with the cable situation.

Jack Cooper continues as president, Chris Pedersen became vice president, and newly elected Dick Cox succeeded Pedersen as treasurer. Cox served as treasurer during a previous term as director and has expressed a preference for that role. Mel Standart continues as secretary, and General Manager Dave Stiffler was reappointed assistant secretary, a non-voting position. All the positions were uncontested. Turning the RMA Building into an arcade

UPDATE: On Saturday, neighbors reported here that vandals had removed and broken holiday lights from the RMA Building during Friday night's arcade. See the story comments for more.

The annual video arcade sponsored by the Optimist Club turned the Rancho Murieta Association Building into party central Friday evening with pizza, soda and a dazzling array of games. Alex Bailey, below, was one of the 66 kids who'd signed in 90 minutes after the start of the event. Friday night was reserved for teens, while Saturday was open to kids of all ages. Event organizers expected to entertain hundreds of the community's young people.

Community activist sues RMA over exclusive use policy

Community activist Wilbur Haines has filed a small-claims lawsuit challenging the Rancho Murieta Association's plans to lift a moratorium that halted the RMA process of granting homeowners exclusive use of common land.

Haines, an attorney, filed the suit Tuesday. At the July RMA board meeting, he challenged the association's policy and said a small-claims test might be a good way to resolve the disagreement.

Under the RMA's CC&Rs, owners of cottage, townhouse and circle lots can lease up to 1,200 square feet of common area immediately adjacent to their homes for heating and air conditioning equipment, propane tanks, decking, unroofed patios, landscaping and swimming pools.
