This year’s Scott Road Bike and Walk Event is scheduled for Sunday, May 4, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cyclists and pedestrians can enjoy the scenic route in safety because portions of Scott, White Rock and Placerville roads will be closed to through motor vehicle traffic as Sacramento County, El Dorado County, and the cities of Folsom and Rancho Cordova support regional “2014 May is Bike Month.” A map and information about the event are available in the attached flyer. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department is partnering with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration to collect potentially dangerous, expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs for safe disposal on Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. The Sacramento County Department of Transportation installed a half-dozen signs on White Rock, Scott, Latrobe and Jackson roads this week to provide better directions and raise awareness about Rancho Murieta. When the signage idea was suggested at the Joint Security Committee in July, community entities were asked to share the cost. But once word reached the county, that wasn’t necessary. “When the Rancho Murieta Country Club, Rancho Murieta Association and Rancho Murieta Community Services District requested additional signage to make it easier for visitors to reach Rancho Murieta, we were pleased to make it happen,” explained Sacramento County Supervisor Roberta MacGlashan in a statement. “We expect that the new signs will make it far easier for visitors and guests to navigate the county’s rural road system connecting the eastern Highway 50 corridor to Rancho Murieta.” The signage is now included in the county’s regular budget for roadway signs. Thursday's "National Night Out" was marked in Rancho Murieta at the Trinidad Drive backyard of Teresa Field.  Several dozen neighbors mingled, enjoyed cookies and ice cream, and chatted with representatives of the Sheriff's Department, who were there to discuss community efforts to fight crime.  They also shared information about the "Care Call Program," in which volunteers place regular calls to housebound elderly neighbors.  If you're interested in the program, call 876-8339. The Sacramento Sheriff's Department Florin Service Center is now offering Care Call, a free program to assist older, homebound seniors living in Rancho Murieta, Wilton, Walnut Grove, Isleton. Herald, Galt and the unincorporated areas of South Sacramento County. The goal of the program is to promote safe, independent living by developing friendships over the telephone to diminish feelings of isolation and loneliness.
