It was a beautiful day to be on the Cosumnes River, as this group found near Granlees Dam Friday morning. A Christmastime ride on the Cosumnes

A group of rafters on a professionally guided tour were working the Cosumnes south fork at Granlees Dam at sunset Thursday, as seen in photos by neighbor Alicia Correia. She says there were two rafts, two kayaks and about 10 people. Alicia adds, "The people had no idea they were in Rancho Murieta. I told them if my pics came out well I'd ask you to put up a good one on RM.com." (Thanks, Alicia!) Group asks why vehicles are barred from river

The Joint Security Committee wants to understand why the land owner has blocked vehicles from access to the Cosumnes.

The community’s Joint Security Committee fielded complaints about restricted access to the Cosumnes River at last week’s meeting.  The committee appointed representatives to meet the Pension Trust Fund, owner of the land, to understand why vehicle access was suddenly blocked last year.

Neighbor Adam Dubey told the committee that before his parents bought here in 1980, a real estate agent drove them “right down to the river access.”  He said legal documents on file with the state reflect river access as an amenity.  Read more » about Group asks why vehicles are barred from river

The span faced various obstacles -- funding, environmental issues and property disagreements -- and hinged on timing.

As the community celebrated the opening of the pedestrian bridge Saturday, perhaps the most remarkable thing about the 410-foot wood span is that it exists at all.
