Fire

Crews from Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District  and Cal Fire responded to a fire on dry grassland by the Country Club shortly before noon Thursday. The burn was limited to less than an acre, and firefighters remarked on the large number of golf balls in the charred field as they performed their work. Fire officials on the scene were trying to determine the cause of the fire, which occurred in an area next to a path between the club maintenance yard and the North Course. It's the fifth fire in dry, grassy areas near the North and South courses in the last three months. See previous fire coverage here. Read more » about Firefighters quickly douse blaze near Club

Fire chars acreage near Country Club

A fire broke out by the Rancho Murieta Country Club about 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon and consumed about three acres of dry grass along Alameda Drive between the upper parking lot of the Country Club and the golf course bordering Murieta Parkway. The club and the golf course were not damaged. Sac Metro Battalion 14 Chief Charles Jenkins said at the scene that firefighters were looking for the source of the fire and he advised residents to be aware of dry conditions and not to smoke or use equipment that generates sparks in dry areas. Crews from Sac Metro and Cal Fire responded to the fire, which was quickly brought under control. The area was also hit by fire last year. (Click thumbnail photo to see larger image.)
