County meeting about Kiefer Landfill Monday

The county will hold a community meeting about the Kiefer Landfill 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District #58, 7250 Sloughhouse Road. The meeting will focus on proposed use of buffer lands around Kiefer Landfill, which is on  Kiefer Boulevard in Sloughhouse, about six miles from Rancho Murieta. There’s a summary of the plans here. The planning area was the subject of an environmental review and community meetings in 2012 and 2013. County representatives will be on hand for Monday’s meeting. Hazardous waste collected at RM event

There was no waiting for the steady stream of vehicles bringing paint, fluorescent bulbs, pool chemicals and other items to the Rancho Murieta Community Services District's household hazardous waste event Saturday morning at the FAA parking lot on Cantova Way. After CSD personnel checked residents in, vehicles were unloaded by hazardous waste technicians. You'll be able to dump your unwanted electronics for free from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Rancho Murieta Business Center parking lot in Murieta Plaza.  Items being collected include TVs, faxes, monitors, LCD screens, stereos. plasma screens, keyboards, laptops, mice, computer towers, speakers, printers, cell phones, telephones and speakers. CSD and homeowners at odds over 80-foot redwood

NicholsonsThe thought of losing the redwood tree that shades their deck and provides protection against bombarding golf balls prompted Bob and Janet Nicholson to post an appeal for help on RanchoMurieta.com Thursday morning.  Throughout the day, the forum post generated e-mails and phone calls to the Nicholsons from neighbors in Rancho Murieta and community officials.

Deer Creek Hills bike tour June 27

The Sacramento Valley Conservancy is holding its first mountain bike tour of Deer Creek Hills Saturday, June 27, from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Mountain bike docents will escort riders on single track, cattle paths and ranch roads.

Deer Creek Hills is a blue oak and grasslands preserve of over 4,000 acres adjacent to Rancho Murieta. The pastureland serves as a working cattle ranch from November through May, and the cattle have proven to be superb designers for single track trails that are suitable for beginners and families, according to the conservancy.

Doing the right thing with Murieta's e-waste and paper

Plenty of volunteers kept things moving and made it easy to do the right thing Saturday at the e-waste recycling and paper shredding events held in the FAA Building parking lot on Cantova Way. The e-waste event is a fundraiser for Sacramento Sheriff's Crime Prevention, and donations from the paper shredding event go to Cops for Kids. The events were sponsored by Walnut Grove Rotary Foundation and Sacramento County Sheriff's Crime Prevention. Local members of Volunteers in Partnership with the Sheriff assisted the effort.
